Hidden Danger
As we said on the previous page the danger with spam is that we become over sensitive to it. RIGHT NOW oversensitivity is resulting in negative consequences for YOU!

What are you talking about? Spam is BAD!!!
Yes we agree it is annoying and wrong, however web users have complained about it so much that email service providers themselves have become EXTREME in how they deal with it. While their intentions are good their actions are DEPRIVING YOU OF CHOICE!!

How Spam Should Be Dealt With
The best way to deal with spam is to create filters and programs that recognize it and sort it for easy deletion to minimize disruption to internet users. We restate recognizing and sorting is the key NOT AUTO DELETING or BANNING.

A BIG PROBLEM
Because many internet users got so worked up about spam and complained to email providers about it, they did the obvious thing and responded by trying to stop spam getting through to their clients. (again we remind you this is not possible)

Some email providers (through over enthusiasm and lack of thought) have gone too far! Yes they may be stopping a lot of spam getting to you but in the process they are also stopping email YOU ASKED for or may want being delivered.

Currently while you may not be aware of it some free email service
providers are actually making decisions for you. THEY are deciding what is spam and what is not and deleting email sent to YOU automatically without giving you a say in the matter. WE THINK THIS IS WRONG!!!

What right do these companies have to decide who can and can't email you? This is depriving you of BASIC PERSONAL CHOICE.

How Some Email Providers Are messing Things Up For You
Rather than spending time improving spam filters and speeding up the time it takes you to sort out the legitimate email from the spam , they simply refuse or delete the emails they consider spam. If their program makes a mistake a legitimate email that you wanted gets deleted period! You have NO choice!

It Gets Worse!
All the web sites you like to visit exist on large computers that run 24/7 so you can visit the sites at any time of day or night. These large computers are called servers.

Just like your town or city all servers have their own unique zip code called an IP address. A long series of numbers that identifies that server.

When an email is sent from any web site to you, the server address is included in the background coding of the email to mark the locality of the origin of the email. (again just like a senders zip code in traditional mail).

Also included in the coding of the email is the user name of the web site that sent it. (equivalent to the senders house number and street address on the back of a letter)

The problem is some email providers like AOL receive spam complaint against one web site, and block the servers ENTIRE IP address (Zip Code) from sending any more mail to their clients.

Isn't that good? They can's spam me anymore.
If each server only had one web site on it yes it would be excellent. However a typical server has 50 to 200 web sites on it.

So this means that if one less reputable web site spams and gets black listed the other 199 websites can no longer send you email. These other sites have done NOTHING wrong but are penalized by over enthusiastic filters from email providers .

It is bad for the honest websites because it hurts their business. It is equally as bad for you because no matter what you do you can not receive email from that site.

Ever joined a site and been told you would have to click a link in a confirmation email they just sent you but you never get the email??? The chances are your email provider deleted that email before it was delivered to you.

This can affect you very badly. It can reduce the sites you can become a member of, and it can interfere with things like receipts and order confirmations when you buy goods online.

MAKE SURE YOUR EMAIL PROVIDER DOES NOT TAKE AWAY YOUR FREEDOM OF CHOICE!!!

We are all big boys and girls here, the answer to spam is to make it less of an inconvenience and learn to deal with it ourselves. AGAIN the secret is sorting and processing not relying on someone else to make decisions for you.
